Craftsmanship with a Story

About Reclaiming Iowa

Our Story

A Maker's Mindset in West Des Moines

We are Reclaiming Iowa, a custom furniture studio in West Des Moines, founded by owner Kevin Dubay. Kevin earned his Bachelor of Fine/Studio Arts from the Kansas City Art Institute and later completed his Master's in Furniture Design and Manufacturing at the University of Arizona.

"We combine strong project management with hands-on craftsmanship, bringing artistic vision, precision, and a maker's mindset to every build, from concept to final installation."

Located at 5480 Colt Drive

In the heart of West Des Moines, we handcraft custom furniture from locally sourced reclaimed timbers and live-edge hardwood slabs. Our reclaimed wood is salvaged from commercial buildings and barns that are more than 100 years old.

A Living History

When available, we label pieces with the building name, location, and date of construction, so each project carries a story and becomes a true conversation piece. It is also an environmentally sustainable choice.

Local Slabs & Kiln Drying

We source our hardwood slabs locally, mill them, and kiln-dry them to 6% moisture content. We can custom-build dining tables, coffee tables, and nearly any other piece for your home or office using a wide range of wood species native to our region.

Precision Engineering

We plane our tabletops for uniform thickness, then glue, biscuit-join, and pocket-screw them to help prevent warping or splitting.

Hard Wax Oil Finish

We finish each piece with a hard wax oil that enhances the natural grain and provides durable, long-lasting protection.

Naturally One of a Kind

Because reclaimed timbers and live-edge hardwood are naturally one of a kind, no two tabletops are exactly alike. We build every table specifically for you.
